On June 24, 2010, AC-NET held its second Clean Tech Business Plan Competition during the TechConnectWorld 2010 Conference at the Anaheim Convention Center.
After an afternoon of presentations, Ener-G-Rotors from Schenectady, N.Y. took first place and the $25,000 grand prize.
"We are grateful to the City of Anaheim and AC-NET for giving us this honor and providing a great opportunity for us to connect with West Coast investors, customers, and Anaheim Public Utilities," said Michael Newell, CEO of Ener-G-Rotors, a maker of electric generators that produces power from low temperature waste heat.
Flex Energy, a local company based in Irvine, CA, took second place and received the $10,000 prize for its generator that produces electricity from previously unusable gasses from sources like landfills or industrial sites.
Taking third place and the $5,000 prize was Prism Solar Technologies from Highland, N.Y. The company's proprietary holographic film for solar modules lowers the cost of solar, while increasing its power output.
Also participating in the finals were EcoCover from Irvine, CA, a maker of organic mulch from recycled office paper that replaces plastic in agricultural, landscaping, forestry, and nursery applications, and PaceControls from York, PA., a manufacturer of energy-saving retrofit controls for use in HVAC and refrigeration (HVACR) applications.
With an eye toward doing more for clean-tech entrepreneurs, Mayor Pringle said, "In the future, I look forward to AC-NET offering a wider range of services to help entrepreneurs at all stages of development – from the garage startup to those attracting venture capital – to help them succeed in the market."
